Raja Bahadur Raj Karan is a scion of proud feudal dynasty and is too steeped in traditions to adjust himself with the changing times. He is depending on the money-lender Dhani Ram for loans to meet his huge day to day expenses. Raja Bahadur is very much attached to his enlightened younger brother Suraj whose devotion and respect of his elder brother is proverbial. On more than one occasion there is clash of ideologies between the two brothers, but affection of each other erodes their differences. Suraj is in love with the pretty, educated and the only daughter of a rich jeweler Seth Hiralal and their romance is climaxing into marriage in due course. One day there is very big confrontation between Raja Bahadur and the money-lender Dhani Ram over the repayment of loans. All this has come to the notice of Suraj and the two brothers face each other on this issue. Raja Bahadur feels hurt and humiliated. Raja Bahadur plans theft of jewellery he had previously seen in the house of Seth Hiralal. His accomplice and servant Shanker is caught red handed but Raja Bahadur manages to sneak into his palace and is accosted by Suraj who takes the crime on him and gets himself arrested. Rekha remains unconvinced with Suraj’s version. Both Raja Bahadur and Seth Hiralal are completely in the dark about the romance between Suraj and Rekha. Suraj on his release from jail, leas of the prospective wedding of Raja Bahadur and Rekha. Suraj leads the marriage procession to the brides house singing and dancing. This brings the story to a very high pitched unpredicted climax underlying the supreme sacrifices of two brothers for each other and the burial of all false values of life.
