A forest officer (Amitabh Bachchan) is jailed for the alleged murder of a smuggler (Amrish Puri). Unable to bear the shock, his wife (Madhavi) and daughter commit suicide. On his retu from jail, he discovers that the persons who committed the murder are flourishing. He swears revenge. Meanwhile, Rajnikanth seeks revenge for the atrocities committed against his parents and sister Hema Malini. With Reena Roy and Amitabh's help, Rajnikanth faces the villainous triumvirate of Pran, Prem Chopra and Danny Denzongpa.
